Town Planner
Town planners are involved in shaping our towns, cities and rural areas. They prepare long-term plans, make proposals for new developments and examine the proposals of others. They may visit sites to assess the effects of development, collect information and write reports, analyse date and prepare reports. Planners in local government typically work Monday to Friday but occasionally have to attend evening meetings or visit sites.
Qualifications
You will need to complete a relevent degree, these include architecture, geography, economics and geology. To get on to a degree you will need 5 or more GCSE"s grades A-C and a minimum of 2 A Levels or BTEC equivalent, such as the CBE Diploma. You can then study a two year postgraduate course int Town Planning.

Salary
Salaries range between £16,000 for a graduate or assistant planner up to £80,000 for a chief officer in local government
