The progression opportunities in construction are vast, many CEO’s of large companies started out as apprentices working on site. If you start your career out on site in a practical role, this doesn’t mean that you can’t move into a professional role later in life.

To progress in the academic route it is recommend that you consider gaining professional status, which is classed as a mark of quality to many potential employers. They also ensure you are kept up to date with the latest legislation and technological advances.
If you want to progress in a trade there are professional bodies that you can join, which can help you secure work as they demonstrate that you are professionally qualified, insured and work toward a code of practice, for example The Painting & Decorating Association.
