Skills Academy Case Studies
Roheel studied construction in year 9 at the City of Leeds High School. He enjoyed it so much that he enrolled on the 14 - 16 Skills Academy programme and attended the College 1 day a week whilst he was still at school.
He studied towards a Level 2 BTEC Diploma in Construction which covers various aspects of construction including, health and safety, plastering, brickwork, carpentry and joinery.
Roheel passed with flying colours and was given an automatic place to progress onto a full-time course at the College.
He knew that he wanted to continue in the construction industry as he prefers working and learning in a more practical environment, however, he wanted to try something different.
He decided to enrol on a Level 2 Diploma in Electrical. He is really enjoying the course and has recently taken part in the Matchfit competition. He had to follow a diagram and create a 4 way ring socket and 2 way lighting socket. His hard work and training paid off as it resulted in coming 3rd place.
Roheel has also been lucky enough to obtain a work placement with Richardson Electrical where he has been able to gain excellent experience working with professionals out on site.
When asked what his plans are for the future, he said
“My aim is to progress onto an Apprenticeship after I finish the course”.
