Coronavirus Closure

For the attention of students, parents, carers and employers

Latest update

Following the Prime Minister's announcement last night (Sunday 10 May), Leeds College of Building is waiting for the detailed guidance expected at 2pm this afternoon (Monday 11 May). Once this has been reviewed, we will make further announcements and will communicate directly with current and future students.

We are aware that there will be lots of questions, but we hope to provide more information shortly.

Online learning

Following the Prime Ministers announcement on Monday 23 March and the continuing advice for social distancing measures, Leeds College of Building is currently operating online learning only.

All students (full time & adult) and apprentices are encouraged to continue their studies, supported by their tutors, assessors and advisors through the online support which has been set up for them.

For information about how to access this, please contact the appropriate Assistant Faculty Director below who will be able to answer or direct your query.

  • Construction Crafts (Brickwork, Joinery, Painting & Decorating, Plastering, Roofing and Wall & Floor Tiling) - Steve Connell at sconnell@lcb.ac.uk
  • Building Services (Plumbing, Electrical, Heating and Ventilation, Refrigeration, Gas) - Phil Bray at pbray@lcb.ac.uk
  • Higher Education and Construction Design Management - Chris Tunningley at ctunningley@lcb.ac.uk

The majority of staff will be working remotely and will be available to support you. Where your tutor is unable to do this, the College will seek to find alternative support for you. Email responses may take longer than normal due to members of staff own personal circumstances. If your query is urgent, please contact ndavis@lcb.ac.uk.

Students and apprentices can find further information on how to access College work remotely here, including details on how to download Microsoft Office products free of charge : www.lcb.ac.uk/student-life/working-from-home

Students can access telephone support from Student Services including accessing food vouchers, sanitary products or general advice by calling  0113 222 6002.

Apprentices - can contact Work Based Learning on 0113 222 6041 for further information and support.

Exams & assessments

Following the latest government announcement on this year's GCSE grading system, we can assure you that we will be doing everything we can to ensure our students progress to their next step and that new students can access their programme in September.

GCSE results will be released on the normal date of 20th August 2020.

Ofqual has announced a two week consultation on the awarding of vocational and technical qualifications. Once this approach has been confirmed, we will be in contact with all students to explain how this affects them and if we require any additional information. We thank you for your patience as we work through this. The full details can be found here.

Leeds College of Building would like to reassure students, parents, apprentices and employers that we will be supporting everyone to help them progress to the best option for them - whether that's progressing to the next stage of their course, moving on to higher education or starting their career.

Parents/carers - key workers

We would like to thank all parents and carers for making alternative arrangements for their child. If your own individual circumstances change, please contact ndavis@lcb.ac.uk for additional guidance.

Employers & Apprentices

The Department for Education and Institute of Apprenticeship & Technical Education have issued advice stating that apprentices who have been furloughed (granted leave or temporary absence) by their employer, are encouraged to continue their learning, supported virtually by their training provider. Apprentices at Leeds College of Building are being supported remotely by assessors, tutors and advisors to continue their studies. All apprentices should remain in contact with the College and continue to engage with the learning that has been set up.
