Course overview

Electrical Level 1 Award is designed as a basic insight into Electrical, it will give you the basic hand skills necessary to carry out small Electrical tasks.  Whilst this award does not make you a competent electrician, the course is an ideal first step for those who want to pursue a career as an electrician.

Electricians fit, test and repair electrical installations found in homes and businesses. This could include, fitting consumer units and circuit breakers, connecting wires to sockets, switches and light fittings and installing fire alarms.


Course content

The Electrical Level 1 Award (Construction Skills) course is designed as a basic insight into working in the electrical industry, it will give you the basic hand skills necessary to carry out small electrical tasks.

At the end of the course you will have learnt basic electrical processes and operations, including:

1. Health and safety within the industry theory In this unit, learners will find out about health and safety legislation, and the application of safe working practices within a workplace. They will explore hazards and precautions, signs and symbols and basic safety procedures.

2. Electrical installation

  • Hand tools operations
  • Identify fittings and materials
  • Connecting flex to common apparatus
  • Cutting, bending, joining and threading conduit
  • Installing one way lighting circuits

Entry requirements

A basic understanding of the English language due to the theory part of the course.


Course length

The course is available this summer as a 2 week short course.

This course will be run daily Monday - Friday for 2 weeks. 

8:30am - 4pm daily.
