An apprenticeship is ideal if you prefer hands-on learning. You can earn a salary while learning in a way that suits you. You get paid to work in a real job specialising in a field that interests you.

As an apprentice, you gain experience working in a real organisation. You also spend some of your time learning – where we come in - working towards a qualification while following your chosen career path.

However, before you apply for Apprenticeship training at College, you need to be employed or have secured future employment in your chosen route first.

Many employers have fantastic apprenticeship vacancies across all construction specialisms and in your local area. So, here’s what to do next.

Finding employment & how to apply

You must have an employer secured first to apply for an apprenticeship. So:

  • Start by searching the National Apprenticeship Vacancy Matching Service. You can apply for vacancies online. There is a helpful guide about how to apply for apprenticeships here.
  • Come along to one of our open events and talk to our friendly staff for more help.
  • Contact our Apprenticeships Team directly by emailing info@lcb.ac.uk or calling 0113 222 6000 for further guidance.
  • If you are a school leaver or there are no apprenticeship vacancies that suit you, consider applying for a College study programme first.

Study Programmes

Many students choose to enrol on a full-time study programme at College and then transfer over to an apprenticeship during their first year.

We work with a bank of employers who regularly recruit directly from our full-time students, so this is an alternative route to an apprenticeship.

How long is an apprenticeship?

The length of an apprenticeship varies from 18 months to 4 years, depending on various factors like the level of qualification. Check out the apprenticeship training offered at Leeds College of Building for more details.

You can also find out additional information about apprenticeships on the Go Construct website.
