Become a Roof Slater & Tiler

Roofers build, maintain and repair roofs on properties such as residential houses, commercial buildings, sports stadiums and industrial units. They work mainly on flat or pitched (sloped) roofs, using many different roofing materials including tiles, slates, felt and corrugated sheeting. Hours of work vary, typically Monday to Friday but this can vary depending on the time of year.

Qualifications

Roof Slating & Tiling is available as an apprenticeship course. Good GCSEs are recommended for measurements and calculations. At Leeds College of Building you will be required to pass an assessment. You must have achieved the Level 2 NVQ Diploma to commence the Level 3 NVQ Diploma.

Salary

Newly trained roofing operatives can earn £17,000+

Trained roofing operatives with some experience can earn £17,000 - £35,000

Senior roofing operatives or master roofers can earn £35,000 - £65,000

Self-employed roofing operatives set their own rates
