Entry requirements

The entry requirement for this apprenticeship will be decided by each employer, but may typically be five GCSEs at Grade C or higher. 


Course overview

An operations/departmental manager is someone who manages teams and/or projects, and achieving operational or departmental goals and objectives, as part of the delivery of the organisations strategy.  

The programme will be delivered as blended learning and will include a number of mandatory units including; 

  • Operational management 
  • Project management 
  • Finance 
  • Leading people 
  • Managing People 
  • Building relationships 
  • Communication 
  • Self awareness 
  • Management of self 
  • Decision making 

Apprentices will complete a portfolio of evidence, undertake and record Continued Professional Development (CPD) and once their studies are completed will undertake the End-Point Assessment (EPA).

Information for employers

If you are considering taking on an apprentice and would like to find out more about the Level 5 Operations and Departmental Manager Apprenticeship please get in touch with the Apprenticeship team.

They will be able to advise you on the course content, offer advice for levy and non-levy payers and provide details on the end point assessment (EPA).

From 1st April 2021 all employers are required to use the government apprenticeship service to secure funding for any apprentices they wish to employ.  Apprentices will be unable to start their course at college without reserving funding.
