Entry requirements

This course is only available on a part-time basis as a top-up, and is for students who have completed a relevant Building Services HNC qualification.


What would I learn at College?

The Level 5 BTEC Higher National Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment offers students the opportunity to develop a sound understanding of the principles in their specialist pathway. 

It is designed to support progression into employment or on to degree-level study. The course provides students with a more complex level of education and knowledge in the field of building services engineering.

The electrical pathway is aimed at students who hold a post in the design, specification or management with an electrical bias. Fifteen units are required to complete the HND. The electrical pathway has units specifically targeted to meet the needs of an electrical engineer.                           

Some of the units covered in the course include:     

  • Unit 1: Individual project (Pearson-set)
  • Unit 8: Mathematics for construction
  • Unit 9: Principles of heating services design & installation
  • Unit 10: Principles of ventilation and air conditioning design & installation
  • Unit 14: Building information modelling
  • Unit 22: Group project (Pearson-set)
  • Unit 32: Building management systems
  • Unit 33: Advanced electrical design & installation
