Entry requirements

This course is only available on a part-time basis as a top-up, and is for students who have completed a relevant Construction Management HNC qualification.


What would I learn at College?

The Level 5 BTEC Higher National Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment offers students the opportunity to develop a sound understanding of the principles in their specialist pathway.

It is designed to support progression into employment or on to degree-level study. The construction management pathway is ideal for those who are interested in a careers as a design co-ordinator, construction site supervisor, design technician, site manager or project manager.

The course covers a broad spectrum of subject areas that are relevant to develop a student's wider understanding of the construction industry and its growing role.

Fifteen units are required to complete the HND. The construction management pathway has 3 units specifically targeted to let the needs of that particular pathway.             

Some of the units covered on the course include:

  • Unit 14: Building information modelling
  • Unit 22: Group project (Pearson-set)
  • Unit 23: Contracts & management
  • Unit 24: Project management
  • Unit 25: Management for complex buildings
  • Unit 35: Alternative methods of construction
  • Unit 44: Advanced surveying & measurement

Next steps

This course is designed to provide progression in to employment in the construction and the built environment sector or to a relevant degree course/apprenticeship.

Students could also gain membership with the relevant chartered institutes.
