Posted on 05 July 2018

The College is today celebrating after winning four categories at the prestigious national BTEC Awards, hosted by Pearson.

The ceremony, which was presented by BBC Breakfast presenter Steph McGovern, saw the College win one sector award and three overall award categories.

Every year, over 1 million students choose to study a BTEC; the annual BTEC Awards event recognises and rewards the students, teachers, schools, and colleges for their exceptional achievements in vocational learning.

This year, out of over 1,000 applications, the awards collected by the College and its students were:

  • BTEC Apprenticeship Provider of the Year
  • BTEC Apprentice of the Year (age 19+) - Tom Coleman (employed by A-One+)
  • BTEC Higher National Student of the Year - Viren Lad (employed by SCP)
  • BTEC Construction Student of the Year - Sinead Burke (employed by PH Plasterers Ltd)

Ian Billyard, Principal said:

“We are thrilled at the wonderful success of our students and at winning the BTEC Apprenticeship Provider of the Year 2018, especially given the strength of delivery within the sector. Receiving this outstanding accolade is evidence of the hard work and dedication of staff at Leeds College of Building, and we are delighted this is being recognised and showcased on a national platform. Special thanks to the employers associated with the College for their continued support and the opportunities they provide to our students; together we can play our part in supporting industry needs."
