A: Hi! I'm Molly Fulton and I studied Level 3 BTEC Construction in the Built Environment.

Q: Why did you choose to study at Leeds College of Building?

A: I had heard good reviews about the course, and Leeds College of Building was the only college local to me that was running it at the time.

Q: How did you apply for college?

A: I made my application for the course online via the Leeds College of Building website.

Q: Did you visit an open day?

A: I attended an open day at South Bank and had a chat with a female tutor who also has a background in Quantity Surveying.

Q: What 3 questions you would recommend asking at an open day?

A: When I finish my course, what can be my next step in my career?

Will it be exam or assignment based?

What will my timetable look like?

Q: What did you get up to on your course?

A: I completed multiple units, including Health & Safety, Construction Management and Renewable Energies. We went into the local park and completed tasks around surveying. I participated in employability sessions, tutorials and attending several employer talks. I took part in 3 work placements which enabled me to gain some hands-on experience.

Q: What was your favourite thing about college?

A: Meeting new people, socialising, learning new tops and working with supportive tutors.

Q: How was the course you assessed?

A: My course was assignment based and I also completed 3 exams at the end.

Q: Did you spend a lot of time in the workshops?

A: My course was not workshop based, therefore I completed my studies within the classroom.

Q: Did you do anything with the student’s union?

A: I was a student ambassador and therefore took part in college events including, helping out on open events, completed college tours with new students, helped out at enrolment days and the female forum.

A: I have recently attended the Building Industry Greats (BIG) Awards Ceremony where I won the BTEC Level 3 Full Time Extended Diploma Student of the Year award.

Q: Can you give some top tips for students applying to college?

A: Get involved, and put yourself out there

Have good attendance and punctuality, this is a huge positive with employers

Keep your CV updated with your achievement

Make an effort to socialise with other in your group

Ask your tutor for help if needed

    Have fun!

Q: What do you know now about college that you wish you knew before you started?

A: College provides lots of fun and academic opportunities and if you don’t make an effort to participate you will get left behind.

Q: What do you hope to do in the future?

A: I have recently started my Apprenticeship with JN Bentley. I hope to complete this within a good time scale and be taken on permanently with the company. I would also like to consider further education and work my way up the career ladder, I am also hoping to do this with Leeds College of Building.
