HEC Contracting Ltd and the College have agreed a joint Memorandum of Understanding to assist in the training, learning and development of post 14-year-old students, currently engaged or interested in a future in the Construction and Built Environment industry.

The arrangement will facilitate access to and development of a sustainable workforce for the future of the industry whilst supporting local communities and their environment.  The key aims of the partnership are to provide access to on and off the job training by way of Apprenticeships in Electrical Installation, work experience placements and / or work based learning projects, with HEC Contracting Ltd committing to providing at least 12 to 15 Apprenticeship starts between now and August, the deal was negotiated as part of “Apprenticeship Week”.

Chris Horsfall, Managing Director of HEC Contracting Ltd said: “I am delighted that we have started this new partnership with Leeds College of Building (who have a regional and national reputation), while others may use the economic downturn as an excuse to cut back on training and development, we recognise that investment is required in order to encourage more people into the industry as they are vital to the success of the construction industry in years to come.  The company currently employs 140 personnel and the new arrangements will offer up-skilling opportunities for us, from Craft to potential Higher Apprenticeships, which the College are currently developing nationally”.

Derek Whitehead, Deputy Principal commented: “It is extremely important that the College and companies in the construction sector work together to ensure that the next generation of construction employees have the vital skills and knowledge that are required to succeed in the industry.  The new partnership with HEC Contracting Ltd will provide new and existing full-time students with the opportunity to progress into these Apprenticeship employment opportunities."
