Hardeep Lyall - Revisited

Construction & the Built Environment

Back in 2019, former student Hardeep Lyall kindly wrote a blog about his time at Leeds College of Building.

Now, aged 23, we caught up with him again to find out how he’s been getting on:

“Since the last time we spoke, I have completed just under two years working in an architectural firm. I worked in North East Lincolnshire/Cleethorpes for 3 months before I found a job in Harrogate which was closer to home.

It was only one week after I started my job that we were told to work from home due to the global pandemic. Having only joining the company a very short period of time before that, I was very nervous because I didn’t have much experience and this was a challenge.

My first project was to design a car park for an online retailer (NDA) which took me a week to complete. My team was very supportive and guided me throughout my time in practice.

Fortunately, my hard work has paid off. Fast forward 18 months and I was managing all parking sites and have been involved in over 250 projects! We need a quick turnaround due to the volume of requests we are now receiving, so the overall work is fast paced.

The company has been very supportive and proud of my perseverance and ability to meet project deadlines.

I am now undertaking my Masters Degree in Architecture at the University of Huddersfield. This is a two-year course which will enhance my knowledge of architecture before I return to practice which is exciting.

I want to thank staff for all that they did for me during my time at Leeds College of Building. The tutoring and advice given affected me greatly and, without doubt, helped shape my future.”
