Construction & the Built Environment Student
Construction & the Built Environment student Molly Fulton discusses her passion for her course and why people should consider our BTEC options.
Hello, my name is Molly Fulton and I study Construction and the Built Environment at the college. I hope to become a Quantity Surveyor in the future as I love Maths and problem solving.
BTEC Construction and the Built Environment is a great course for anyone who knows they want to get into the management side of the industry but does not have a particular role in mind. Each unit you study opens your eyes to a new aspect of working on a construction project. Studying the course has definitely helped me to understand exactly what a quantity surveyor would get up to on a daily basis and how they contribute in a project.
I decided to study at Leeds College of Building as it offered the best route into getting a Construction Apprenticeship. This was especially important to me, as I knew going to study at University was something I didn’t want to do. The college were very supportive about my decision route to get my qualifications. This is one of my favourite things about the college, how supportive the staff are and how they are always on hand to help me with questions I have about assignments.
Over the next five years, I hope to be coming to the end of my Quantity Surveying Apprenticeship, working for a big Civil Engineering company! I’d love to work in infrastructure specifically, as it focuses more on roads and railways. Millions of people will use these every year, so I would love to revisit one of the sites and know I had a significant input in that project.
My biggest achievement in my college journey so far is being recognised for my work in my first year on the course. I was invited to collect an award for this in front of several potential employers. It was great being able to see who I could potentially work for in the future.
