Apprentice Plasterer
Former Student now hiring an apprentice from Leeds College of Building
Following a successful work trial, a Leeds College of Building student has been offered an apprenticeship with Yeadon-based company FMJ Plastering.
Tre (age 17) enrolled on a Level 1 full-time Plastering programme in 2020 before progressing to Level 2. When FMJ Plastering approached the College, Tre was the perfect candidate for an apprenticeship.
Freddy, the proprietor of FMJ Plastering and a former College apprentice himself, said:
"We are building a team of like-minded individuals who hold the same values as we do, and I am happy we have the opportunity to bring an apprentice on board to improve their skills and our team."
As an ex-student, Freddy understood the process of appointing an apprentice. He was keen to give something back through his own growing business and help a plasterer new to the sector.
FMJ Plastering are residential plasterers covering Leeds and Bradford. They provide tailored services from Artex removal, plaster-boarding, and over-skimming to drop ceilings and dot and dab work.
Tre undertook a work trial that allowed him to demonstrate his skills on real projects and gave Freddy the opportunity to see if Tre would fit into his existing team. Tre impressed Freddy so much he was offered an apprenticeship and transferred over immediately.
Construction Crafts Work Placement team member, Adam Theakston, said:
“A big congratulations to Tre for securing the apprenticeship and a huge thank you to Freddy for offering another of the College’s fantastic students such a great opportunity. It’s wonderful to see another former student come back to the College for support in helping their successful business grow further.
“Our ultimate goal is to help students find worthwhile employment and set them up for long and fulfilling careers. We understand how important employment is to our students, and it’s so rewarding to help make that happen.”
