This Level 3 Civil Engineering Technician Apprenticeship is available to anyone aged over 16.
Civil engineers are responsible for the design, construction and maintenance of the built environment, including projects such as bridges, roads, railways, airports, canals, dams and power stations.
Civil engineers can either be consulting engineers who advise on projects and design them or contractors who construct the structures.
The following qualifications will be undertaken in the first two years:
The apprentice will complete an online portfolio of evidence which will be supervised by in-company mentors and LCB assessors.
Completion of the apprenticeship standard will be confirmed following the satisfactory conclusion of an End Point Assessment.
Specific units within the Diploma include: Construction Principles, Construction Design, Construction Technology, Health & Safety, Site Engineering, Further Maths and Construction in Civil Engineering plus 3 optional units.
The main duties and tasks of a civil engineering technician are:
No matter what level you are currently working at, you will be expected to further your skills in English and maths.
Typically an apprentice will be expected to have achieved at least 5 GCSEs at grades (9-4) A*-C including maths, English and science or their equivalent.
Apprentices without level 2 English and maths will need to have achieved this prior to taking the End Point Assessment.
Employers may specify additional entry requirements.

After completing this course there are a number of options available; depending on your final grade you could move onto a higher education course including a HNC/HND, higher apprenticeship or a degree at university, or you could seek employment.
