Course overview

This Quantity Surveying Advanced Apprenticeship is available to anyone aged over 16.

Quantity surveyors are responsible for the monitoring of costs and the estimation of resources on a construction project and may work for clients on contractors.

What skills and qualities do apprentices need?

Good numeracy skills, good communication skills, good leadership skills.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade A*-C (9-4) including English, maths and science.

All applicants will be required to pass an assessment and be aged 16 or over, already be employed or have secured a work placement.

If you are aged 16-18 and unable to find an apprenticeship, you can apply for a study programme and switch over at any point when you do find one.

What would apprentices learn at College?

  • The underpinning mathematics and science related to construction
  • How to measure and calculate the cost of construction works and monitor the progress against the budget
  • How to control costs for the client and design teams as well as financial management and contract administration throughout the lifecycle of a project

No matter what level you are currently working at, you will be expected to further your skills in English and maths.

Next steps

After completing this course there are a number of options available; depending on your final grade you could move onto a higher education course including a HNC/HND, higher apprenticeship or a degree at university, or you could seek employment.
