Course overview

This Surveying Property and Maintenance Apprenticeship is available to anyone aged over 16.

Property surveying covers a broad area of careers including assessment of the condition of a building, planning, implementing and monitoring the maintenance of buildings (building surveying), controlling costs (quantity surveying), management of property, acquisitions and disposals (general practice) and valuation of property.

What skills and qualities do apprentices need?

An analytical, methodical and accurate approach to your work, good communication skills, the ability to work well in a team.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade A*-C (9-4) including English, maths and science.

All applicants will be required to pass an assessment and be aged 16 or over, already be employed or have secured a work placement.

What would apprentices learn at College?

  • Health and safety
  • The design, technology and construction of low-rise buildings
  • Specialist options are available in maintenance of buildings, quantity surveying, property management, building surveying and property valuation
  • The assessment of conditions of a building and its energy usage as well as the production of survey documents and specifications
  • How to carry out site surveys to produce drawings and sections

No matter what level you are currently working at, you will be expected to further your skills in English and maths.

Next steps

After completing this course there are a number of options available; depending on your final grade you could move onto an a higher education course including a HNC/HND, higher apprenticeship or a degree at university, or you could seek employment.
