Become a Bench Joiner

Bench joiners tend to be based in workshops; they prepare a number of products before installation, such as doors, staircases and windows. Often they can create fitted furniture such as cupboards and wardrobes. Hours of work vary; typically they are Monday to Friday with overtime at weekends.

Bench Joinery is usually offered as an apprenticeship or a part-time course.

Good GCSEs are recommended, particularly in maths & English.

At Leeds College of Building entry is via a basic skills test or for the part-time course a relevant qualification.


Qualified bench joiners earn between £18,000 and £25,000 a year.

With experience, this can rise from £26,000 to over £30,000 a year.
