Become a BIM Manager

Building Information Modelling (BIM) describes the process of designing and delivering a building collaboratively using a coherent system of 3D computer models.

They act as the interface between designer, owner and facilities manager and as such enable successful collaborations between all team members. In addition to dealing with digital files and managing drawing production, the BIM manager defines the content required in the model to achieve long term client ambitions.

BIM roles are evolving to become an integral part of all construction projects.

Qualifications

There are a number of ways you can become a building information manager, as a minimum you will need 4 or more GCSEs grades A-C (9-4) and a minimum of 2 A Levels or BTEC equivalent.

Level 3

You can study a BTEC Subsidiary or Extended Diploma in Construction & the Built Environment or Civil Engineering; or an Advanced Level 3 Apprenticeship in Built Environment Design or Civil Engineering.

Level 4, 5 & 6

You can study a HNC, HND, Higher Apprenticeship or Degree in Construction and the Built Environment, Civil Engineering or Surveying etc.

Salary

Newly trained BIM managers can earn in the region of £20,000 to £30,000.

Trained with experience BIM managers can earn in the region of £30,000 to £50,000.

Senior, chartered or master BIM managers can earn in the region of £50,000 to £80,000.

Salaries typically range depending on location, level of responsibility and chartered status.
