Joiner

Joiners work with wood to create staircases, windows and doors, furniture, kitchens, cupboards and interior woodwork.

Joiners work mostly in workshops or factories but can go out to fit on site, such as a staircase or cupboards into a house. Joiners have varied and creative careers. They make items that are practical or beautiful – or both – for our homes, workplaces and public places.

Qualifications

Joinery is available as a study programme, part-time course or an apprenticeship. Good GCSEs are recommended for measurements and calculations. At Leeds College of Building entry is via a basic skills test or for part-time courses a relevant qualification.

Salary

Average salaries are in the region of £14,000 to £30,000 depending on location/employer.
