Roof Slater & Tiler

Roofers build, maintain and repair roofs on properties such as residential houses, commercial buildings, sports stadiums and industrial units. They work mainly on flat or pitched (sloped) roofs, using many different roofing materials including tiles, slates, felt and corrugated sheeting. Hours of work vary, typically Monday to Friday but this can vary depending on the time of year.

Qualifications

Roof Slating & Tiling is available as an apprenticeship course. Good GCSEs are recommended for measurements and calculations. At Leeds College of Building you will be required to pass an assessment. You must have achieved the Level 2 NVQ Diploma to commence the Level 3 NVQ Diploma.

Salary

A roofing labourer can earn from £13,000 to £15,000 a year, once qualified this can rise to between £16,000 and £24,000.

Experienced roofers can earn up to £32,000 a year.
