Wood Machinist

Become a Wood Machinist

Wood Machinists tend to be based in workshops and prepare floorboards, staircases, window frames, skirting boards and door frames using different types of tools and machinery. Some of the machinery is operated by hand and others are controlled by computer. Wood Machinists hours may include shift work and you will work in a dusty and noisy environment.

  • Excellent maths skills to make calculations and take measurements
Qualifications

Wood Machining is available as an apprenticeship or part-time course. Good GCSEs are recommended for measurements and calculations. At Leeds College of Building entry is via an assessment or for part-time courses a relevant qualification.

Salary

Salaries range between £16,000 up to £28,000 a year.
