Course overview

This plastering course is ideal for those who want to pursue a career in plastering.

Plasterers mix and apply plaster to walls and ceilings of buildings to provide a smooth or decorative finish. A plasterer will also produce ornamental plasterwork such as ceiling roses, cornices and columns.

Our study programmes include a vocational course, English and maths, work experience and employability skills.

Students also have the opportunity to take part in sport and enrichment activities alongside their course.

You can easily transfer from a study programme onto a plastering apprenticeship course if you secure employment in the plastering industry.

Entry requirements

This course requires 5 GCSE’s including a grade 3 or above in both maths and English. Any student who applies for the course without the required predicted grades may be invited in for an interview to assess their suitability for the Level 1 Extended Certificate course.

Any offers will be subject to behaviour and attendance checks with their current/previous school and this will be taken into account when confirming their offer.

All students are required to attend a Welcome Event and Enrolment Week to fully enrol on to a course. These events are invitation only events and if you are unable to attend the date given, you will need to notify us at admissions@lcb.ac.uk.

Students will be assessed in the first six weeks of the course and their programme could change depending on their ability, behaviour and attendance.

For more information, contact our Admissions team on admissions@lcb.ac.uk

On this plastering course you will study:

  • How to use plastering tools and equipment e.g. trowel and hand board
  • Discover the origin of plaster
  • How to prepare walls and ceilings prior to applying plaster
  • How to apply sand/cement and lightweight plaster to various backgrounds
  • How to create and fix fibrous plasterwork such as dado rails and ceiling centres
  • How to apply external render and floor screed
  • The various types of plasterboard that are available and how to prepare them for internal surfaces
  • There is also the opportunity to visit a local plasterboard plant to see how the products are manufactured

No matter what level you are currently working at, you will continue learning English and maths throughout your course.

After completing this course there are a number of options available; depending on your final grade you could move onto a plastering apprenticeship, a level 2 or level 3 certificate/diploma or seek employment in the plastering industry.
