Course overview

The course covers properties of water, with particular focus on how to prevent the harmful legionella pneumophila bacteria, which causes Legionnaires disease. The course explains how a water system should be disinfected and also lists the chemicals that are used in the process.

A pack of information needs to be purchased before attending. This can be ordered from the College and is included in the fees.

Entry requirements

This course is for experience plumbing and heating operatives.

Trainees must hold:

  • A recognised trade qualification in plumbing and heating.
  • A working knowledge of central heating and hot/cold water systems.
  • A working knowledge of Water Regulations or Water Bylaws.

The course has been reviewed to incorporate 2 previous courses into one course.

The course covers:

  • Risk assessments for landlords
  • The process of doing remedial works (Disinfection)
