Bench Joiner

Overview

Bench joiners tend to be based in workshops; they prepare a number of products before installation, such as doors, staircases and windows. Often they can create fitted furniture such as cupboards and wardrobes. Hours of work vary; typically they are Monday to Friday with overtime at weekends.

Qualifications

Bench Joinery is usually offered as an apprenticeship or a part-time course.

Good GCSEs are recommended, particularly in maths & English.

At Leeds College of Building entry is via a basic skills test or for the part-time course a relevant qualification.

Salary

Newly trained bench joiners can earn in the region of £17,000

Experienced bench joiners can earn up to £40,000

Self-employed bench joiners set their own pay rates.
