Course overview

This bricklaying course is ideal for those who want to pursue a career in bricklaying.

Bricklayers build and repair structures, walls, chimneys, walkways and foundations using various types of blocks and brick. Their work can range from a small brickwork project or major house extension to a major stadium project.

Our study programmes include a vocational course, English and maths, work experience and employability skills.

Students also have the opportunity to take part in sport and enrichment activities alongside their course.

You can easily transfer from a study programme onto a bricklaying apprenticeship course if you secure employment in the bricklaying industry.

On this bricklaying course you will study:

  • How to use bricklaying tools and equipment.
  • How to set out basic building work.
  • How to build simple brick/block walls.
  • How to build solid walls.
  • How to build cavity walls.
  • How to build using modern construction methods e.g. timber frame cladding.

No matter what level you are currently working at, you will continue learning English and maths throughout your course.

Entry requirements

The minimum entry requirements for this this course are GCSE English and Maths both at grade 3 or above.

If you have not sat or will not be sitting your GCSE’s due to mitigating circumstances, you can still apply for this course and you may be invited in for an interview to assess your suitability.

Any offers will be subject to behaviour and attendance checks with their current/previous school and this will be taken into account when confirming their offer.

All students are required to attend a Welcome Event and Enrolment Week to fully enrol on to a course. These events are invitation only events and if you are unable to attend the date given, you will need to notify us at admissions@lcb.ac.uk.

Students will be assessed in the first six weeks of the course and their programme could change depending on their ability, behaviour and attendance.

For more information, contact our Admissions team on admissions@lcb.ac.uk

After completing this course there are a number of options available; depending on your final grade you could move onto a bricklaying apprenticeship, a level 2 or level 3 certificate/diploma or seek employment in the bricklaying industry.
