Course overview

This Level 4 course provides a solid foundation for those starting a career in quantity surveying, equipping students with the core knowledge and practical skills needed to contribute effectively to the commercial and contractual management of construction projects.

Through a focused curriculum, students will develop an understanding of key principles in measurement, construction law, and construction economics. These essential topics are delivered in a practical context, preparing learners to support cost planning, procurement, and contract administration on live construction sites.

Providing a stepping stone to further study, this course prepares students for progression to a Level 6 qualification, such as a BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management. Graduates will be well-positioned to take on junior roles in the industry while continuing their professional development.

Entry requirements

Applicants should have the following qualifications:

  • An appropriate Level 3 qualification or apprenticeship.
  • GCSE English (grade 5+)
  • GCSE Maths (grade 5+)

  • Unit 1 – Construction Design Project
  • Unit 4 – Construction Environment
  • Unit 6 – Digital applications of Construction
  • Unit 10 – Measuring & Estimating
  • Unit 12 – Tendering & Procurement
  • Unit 23 – Construction Economics & Sustainability
  • Unit 25 – Quantity Surveying Practice
  • Unit 27 – Law & Legal Frameworks

After completing this course there are a number of options available; apprentices could seek full-time employment or consider a degree apprenticeship. Completing this course will also give you the opportunity to apply for technical membership with the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).
