Course overview

This is a Level 4 Construction Site Supervisor apprenticeship.

If required, a Level 3, 1 year Bridging course to HE is available at an additional fee to prepare the candidate for the HTQ. This is dependent on the candidate’s current qualifications and industry experience.

The first year and second year of the level 4 apprenticeship includes a HTQ CBE (Construction Management pathway) with specific units including:

  • Construction Practice & Management,
  • Legal and Statutory Responsibilities in Construction
  • Construction Technology and
  • Surveying, Measuring & Setting Out

A portfolio of evidence will also be progressed and developed throughout the practical period of the standard.

Apprentices will also complete an online portfolio of evidence which demonstrates that each of the knowledge, skills and behaviours in the Standard, have been met in readiness for the end point assessment. This online portfolio of evidence will be supervised by in-company mentors and LCB assessors.

Completion of the apprenticeship standard will be confirmed following the satisfactory conclusion of an end-point assessment (EPA).

Entry requirements

Typically an apprentice will be expected to have achieved at least 5 GCSEs at Grades 4-9 including maths, English and science or their equivalent. In addition a BTEC Extended Diploma, Diploma, Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship or one/two A level (s), in a relevant subject such as maths or science.

Alternative qualifications and relevant experience may also be considered.

The main duties and tasks of a Construction Site Supervisor are:

  • Supervision of specialist contractors.
  • The control of health and safety standards on construction projects.
  • Recording, control and reporting of progress on a construction project.
  • The minimisation of the environmental impact of construction projects.
  • Control of quality of works on a construction project.
  • Assisting commercial staff with the monitoring of costs on a construction project.

After completing this course there are a number of options available; depending on your final grade you could move onto a higher education course including a HNC/HND, higher apprenticeship or a degree at university, or you could seek employment.
