LCB welcomes two new members to Board of Governors

Posted on 27 November

Leeds College of Building (LCB) is delighted to announce that Phil Burgess and Sammy White have joined our Board of Governors.

Phil brings significant experience to the role, with his construction career now in its 41st year.

After studying Quantity Surveying at what is now Leeds Beckett University, he has worked for Wates, Taylor Woodrow Construction, Willmott Dixon and Seddon.

He is a chartered Quantity Surveyor and is currently the Preconstruction Director at Wordsworth Construction Management, a position he has held since 2020.

Commenting on his new role, Phil said he was “over the moon” to join LCB:

“Construction has been good to me, my father was a City & Guilds trained builder, so I really grew up in the industry. I thought it about time I gave something back. LCB is an institution of high regard and one of a handful specialising in construction.

“I want to help the students who pass through the college to be the best they can be, both for the industry and themselves. Hopefully that will give them the best chance of the good living that construction has given me.”

Sammy White is an award-winning EdTech specialist, a TechWomen100 Winner, and was named Tech Professional of the Year at Women in Tech 2025.

A powerful advocate for diversity, Sammy is dedicated to inspiring more women to build rewarding careers in technology and use their unique skills to shape the future of learning.

Sammy said she was “proud to be joining LCB at a time when they are leading the way as a CTEC.”

She added: “I am really excited to join LCB on this journey as I know the true value FE plays in a local economy. Combining my experience in local colleges and now local industry, I am keen to support FE and Skills in the region”

Commenting on the new additions to the Board LCB Principal & CEO Nikki Davis, said:

“We are thrilled to welcome Phil and Sammy to our Board of Governors. Their experience will be of great benefit as we continue to oversee the mission and activities of our great college. I am personally looking forward to working closely with both throughout the academic year.”
