Leeds College of Building (LCB) is celebrating after taking home The Duchess of Gloucester Award for the Advancement of Skills within the Timber Industry.
The award recognises organisations and individuals who meet skills needs over a sustained period, at a time of high demand for more skilled workers in construction.
Our college picked up the award at this years’ National Association of Shopfitters (NAS) and Institute of Carpenters (IOC) Member’s Day.
The annual event, now in its third year, was held at the Carpenters’ Hall in London and hosted talks from several industry experts.

The theme of this year’s event was ‘The Future’, exploring the skills, innovations, and opportunities that will shape the timber sector in the years ahead.
James Filus, Director of the NAS and the IOC, ran a panel discussion prior to the presentation of the day’s honours.
Curriculum managers Michael Martin and Adam Sharpe were in attendance to receive the award on behalf of our Construction Crafts department.

Reflecting on the day, Adam said:
“It was a great pleasure to be recognised by the IOC and the Duchess of Gloucester; in our industry they are huge names, and rightly so.
“Throughout the day I was genuinely impressed by the passion and experience of everyone here, the work they do is essential to the timber industry.
“The IOC and LCB have worked together for many years and long may it continue.”
