LCB wins big at West Yorkshire Apprenticeship Awards

Posted on 21 May

Leeds College of Building (LCB) is celebrating its position as one of the top apprenticeship providers in the country after receiving a flurry of industry awards.

In its latest trophy haul, LCB was named Training Provider of the Year at the 2026 West Yorkshire Apprenticeship Awards for going above and beyond in supporting apprentice development.

LCB apprentices and their workplace partners also walked away with awards for demonstrating excellence, including:

  • Faith Loynes (employed by Bagnalls) – Intermediate Apprentice of the Year.
  • Farhan Miah (employed by Arup) – Engineering/Manufacturing Apprentice of the Year.
  • Tom Butler (CML Civil Engineering apprentice) – High Commended Degree Apprentice of the Year.
  • Andy Holt (Bagnalls Contracts Manager) – Mentor of the Year for work with LCB apprentices.

Nikki Davis, LCB CEO & Principal, said:

“We were absolutely delighted to receive 13 nominations across ten categories and to walk away with so many trophies. This phenomenal success really is a testament to our industry-leading apprenticeship provision which is helping to drive the region’s skills agenda.

“With the additional funding we are currently seeking, we aim to complete works on our dedicated Construction Technical Excellence Colleges (CTEC) building. This vital facility will strengthen our work with apprentices even further and support us in our mission of developing the construction workforce of the future.”

LCB was one of only 10 CTECs across England for the 2025-2026 academic year. The college intends to renovate a newly acquired building adjacent to its North Street Campus, which will support the CTEC aim of training up to 40,000 more people in high-demand trades by 2029 to tackle construction skills shortages.

The West Yorkshire Apprenticeship Awards are the latest recognition of LCB’s exceptional apprenticeship provision after a string of similar successes. Earlier this month, the college was named the best college in England for apprenticeships at The Apprenticeship Guide Awards 2026.

In March, the long-standing partnership between LCB and construction firm BAM won ‘Highly Commended’ at the 2026 Apprenticeship & Training Awards – one of the most high-profile events in the education sector.

Ten LCB apprentices have been presented with prestigious ICE Quest Scholarships from The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) this academic year, and LCB also recently won The Duchess of Gloucester Award for the Advancement of Skills within the Timber Industry.
