Joiners work with wood to create staircases, windows and doors, furniture, kitchens, cupboards and interior woodwork.
Joiners work mostly in workshops or factories but can go out to fit on-site, such as a staircase or cupboards into a house. Joiners have varied and creative careers. They make items that are practical or beautiful – or both – for our homes, workplaces and public places.

Qualifications
Joinery is available as a study programme, part-time course or an apprenticeship. Good GCSEs are recommended for measurements and calculations. At Leeds College of Building entry is via a basic skills test or for part-time courses a relevant qualification.
Salary
Newly trained joiners can earn £17,000 – £20,000
Trained joiners with some experience can earn £20,000 – £30,000
Senior joiners can earn £30,000 – £40,000
Self-employed joiners set their own pay rates
