This Level 3 Building Services Engineering Craftsperson apprenticeship is available to anyone over the age of 16 who meets the entry requirements.
It replaces the Level 3 Heating & Ventilation (Industrial & Commercial) apprenticeship.
Building Services Engineering makes buildings work. Â It is a specialist branch of engineering within the construction sector. Craftsperson’s undertake the installation, testing, pre-commissioning, commissioning and decommissioning of large-scale engineering systems which are used for heating workplaces such as those found in industrial and commercial buildings like office blocks, factories, schools and hospitals.

From 1st April 2021 all employers are required to use the government apprenticeship service to secure funding for any apprentices they wish to employ. Â Apprentices will be unable to start their course at college without reserving funding.

Entry requirements
Apprentices should be aged 16 or over and be employed or secured employment in the industry.
You must have achieved a grade 4 or above in both English and Maths for this apprenticeship.
Employers may specify additional entry requirements.

Next steps after this course
On completion of this course, apprentices will have learned the following:
- How to apply relevant safety legislation, codes of practice and safe working practices to self and others in building services engineering working environments.
- How to plan, organise and undertake the installation of industrial and commercial systems in ways which use resources effectively to complete work, with consideration for cost, quality, safety, security and environmental impact, within relevant legislative requirements, codes of practice and industry recognised practices.
- How to apply pipework fabrication and jointing techniques for industrial and commercial systems, including prefabricated and/or modularised components and distribution systems and natural gas distribution pipework.
- How to apply installation, testing, pre-commissioning, commissioning and decommissioning techniques for industrial and commercial; cold water systems; hot water systems, heating systems, chilled water systems.
After completing this course there are a number of options available, depending on your final grade you could move onto a level 3 apprenticeship, into higher education or seek permanent employment.
