Electricians fit, test and repair electrical installations found in homes and businesses. This could include fitting consumer units and circuit breakers, connecting wiring to sockets, switches and light fittings and installing fire alarms.

It is recommended that you have good GCSEs, particularly in maths and science.
At Leeds College of Building we offer a 1 year study programme and part-time course and also an apprenticeship in electrotechnical technology. If you take the 1 year option you will then need to move onto an apprenticeship. To become a qualified electrician you have to complete an advanced apprenticeship or be working in the industry to complete your NVQ.
Apprentice electricians can earn from £10,316 in their first year to £22,425 in their final year
Trained electricians earn an average salary of £33,495
Qualified electricians with experience can earn £42,500 or more
