Course overview

This plumbing course is ideal for those who want to pursue a career in plumbing.

Plumbers install, service and repair water supply, sanitation and heating systems. They also install bathroom suites including showers, toilets and basins.

Our study programmes include a vocational course, English and maths, work experience and employability skills.

Students also have the opportunity to take part in sport and enrichment activities alongside their course.

You can easily transfer from a study programme onto a plumbing apprenticeship course if you secure employment in the plumbing industry.

Entry requirements

The Level 1 Diploma requires 5 GCSEs, including both English and Maths at grade 3 or above, and three other subjects also at grade 3 or above.

On this plumbing course you will study:

  • How to cut and join plastic pipe ready for installation.
  • How to prepare the workplace/site ready for work to be carried out.
  • The health and safety legislation relating to the installation and maintenance of electrical and plumbing systems.
  • The science behind plumbing e.g. heat transfers, power, forces and pressure.
  • How to install bathrooms, heating systems, and waste sanitation systems (level 2 only).
  • How to cut, bend and solder copper pipe ready for installation (level 2 only).

No matter what level you are currently working at, you will continue learning English and maths throughout your course.

After completing this course, a number of options are available.

Depending on your final grade, you could progress to the Level 2 Diploma, followed by a Level 3 Technical Diploma, or pursue an apprenticeship in plumbing or gas engineering.
