Course overview
The Civil Engineering Occupational Specialism pathway is part of our T Level in Design, Surveying and Planning for Construction (DSP). After completing the first year of DSP you will get to choose between two different Occupational Specialism pathways, Surveying & Design for Construction and the Built Environment and Civil Engineering.
Occupational specialisms are assessed through practical activities and project-based tasks linked to industry scenarios and are graded as Pass, Merit or Distinction.
All pathways include:
- Practical application of knowledge to real-world scenarios
- Technical project work
- Assessments based on real industry tasks and scenarios.
The Civil Engineering Occupational specialism has been designed with employers to give you the skills needed to progress into a technician career in the construction industry.
Typical roles include civil engineering technician, CAD technician, consulting civil engineer or design engineer.

Entry requirements
Five GCSEs at grades 4 or above including Maths, Science & English.
You’ll also be interviewed by one of our tutors and your school attendance report and reference will be taken into consideration.
