Course overview

The main duties and tasks of a Civil Engineering Senior Technician are:

  • Produce and deliver Civil Engineering Solutions.
  • Manage Civil Engineering Tasks.
  • Use Engineering Software.
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety, apply safe systems of work, including the CDM Regs.
  • Recording, control and reporting of progress on a construction project.
  • Contribute to the minimisation of the environmental impact of construction projects.
  • Control the quality of works.
  • Ensure compliance with equality, diversity and inclusion and ethical standards.

Entry requirements

Typically an apprentice will be expected to have achieved at least 5 GCSEs at Grades 4-9 including Maths, English and Science or their equivalent.

Alternative qualifications or appropriate experience may also be considered.

If candidates have a relevant level 3 qualification or appropriate ‘A’ levels, they may progress straight to year 2 of the standard.

After completing this course there are a number of options available; apprentices could seek full-time employment or consider a degree or degree apprenticeship in civil engineering.
