Course overview

This electrical course is ideal for those who want to pursue a career as an electrician.

Electrician's fit, test and repair electrical installations found in homes and businesses. This could include, fitting consumer units and circuit breakers, connecting wires to sockets, switches and light fittings and installing fire alarms.

On successful completion of the Level 1 Certificate in Electrical, you will have a basic understanding of working safely and competently within an electrical environment. During the course you will have the opportunity to use a variety of tools, learn different techniques and theory and lay a solid foundation for the next step in becoming an electrician. 

Course content

You will learn basic safety measures, tools and techniques and begin developing your skills for employment in the industry. 

This course covers installation of wiring systems and electrical science through practical and theoretical insights.

Entry requirements

This course is ideal for those looking to move into the electrical industry.

There are no specific entry requirements however candidates will need to complete and pass a basic skills assessment.

You will need a good understanding of maths. 

What skills and qualities do I need?


To enrol on this course you will need to attend a College enrolment day and sit an entrance test.

The entrance test will assess your maths and English and determine what level you can start at.

Testing days typically take place in June and July.

What can I do after this course?

Level 1 Certificate > Level 2 Diploma
Level 2 Diploma > Level 3 Diploma

To become a qualified electrician you will need to study an NVQ and complete an AM2 Assessment, alongside the Level 3 Diploma.
