Rob is Head of Partnerships & Skills at LCB.
When did you start at LCB?
4th March 2004
How long have you been involved in construction education?
Between both – 22 years man & boy!
What does your day-to-day look like?
Anything that’s thrown at me! I am responsible for a number of stakeholder facing elements including Schools Liaison, Careers/Employability student experience provision and employer support.
How does working at LCB differ to other places you’ve worked?
Working at LCB gives you a real purpose in life. It sounds cheesy, but being in a position where daily actions and decisions you make equip young people to get a real start in life is awesome. It doesn’t matter what LCB role you work in, we are not earning a quid for somebody else, we are genuinely making a difference for the next generation.
What is your favorite thing about your job?
Always the people!
Do you have a favorite thing you’ve achieved while being here? If so, what?
I’ve supported existing and new staff, and brought some epic people into the college, many of whom are still here and smash it out of the park on a daily basis.
Has LCB changed since you’ve been here? If so, how?
22 years is a long time and whilst the college has been required to become more businesslike in its approach it hasn’t lost its personal edge.
How has LCB helped you to progress your career?
I started my career with LCB as a Work Based Learning Advisor, however, after a number of years I wanted to progress. I knew I wanted to remain part of LCB and so was supported by my then manager to look at HE courses that would allow me to be considered for management roles. As my team grew, I again looked to LCB to support me with additional skills to help me manage that growth. I was encouraged again by my manager to undertake further training which allowed me to hone skills I already possessed.
What do you want to see in the future for LCB?
I want to see the new building take off, Ofsted finally rate LCB as the exemplary provider we all know we are but mostly I want LCB to be somewhere young people regard as a safe place they know they can attend and achieve amazing things.
Can you sum up LCB in a sentence?
“An organisation filled with people who genuinely dedicate themselves to preparing their students not just for work but for life.”
