The Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Civil Engineering is intended as a Tech Level qualification, equivalent in size to two A Levels.
The content of this qualification has been developed in consultation with employers and professional bodies to ensure that it is appropriate for those interested in working in the sector.
It is recommended as a starting point for students who are new or have limited experience in the industry and will provide a very solid base to progress into Higher Education.
We are now offering the BTEC Level 3 National Diploma with a Work Based Learning Employability Portfolio.
Currently there is no level 3 apprenticeship for planners, estimators, contracting quantity surveyors and site technicians, so the course is ideal for those looking to upskill to level 3 and higher.
The student will prepare a portfolio as evidence that they meet the key competencies, such as the knowledge, skills and behaviours shown below.
Although this isn’t an apprenticeship, the College Assessors will visit the student at their workplace and help them collate their evidence. The portfolio will be compiled over the two years of the course and complements the students’ studies.
You will need either a Level 2 BTEC Diploma (including mathematics at Merit or above) or a Level 3 NVQ Diploma in a Construction related area and/or 4 GCSEs at grades A*-C (grade 9-4) in English, mathematics and science.
Mature candidates with other experience or qualifications may also be considered.
If you are aged between 19 to 23 and you have not already achieved a full level 3 qualification, then your course may be free. If you are aged over 19 and have achieved a full level 3 qualification or are aged over 24 you may be eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan from the government to cover your tuition fees.

After completing this course there are a number of options available; depending on your final grade you could move onto a higher education course including a HNC/HND, higher apprenticeship or a degree at university, or you could seek employment.
