What's it all about?

The Level 3 Awards in Welding Skills are ideal if you have plenty of experience and want to further develop your skills to undertake complex welding work and quality control.

The Advanced Level 3 gives you the opportunity to specialise in one or more welding processes. This level uses a combination of skills you've previously acquired, and new skills gained to complete the practical exercises set. You must complete the practical assessments and an online exam to move onto the Level 3 Welding Unit.

Within this unit you will develop practical skills in welding using the MMA process. You will learn how to work safely whilst preparing to connect pipework using MMA welding methods. These skills meet the needs of candidates who work, or want to work, as Welders in the engineering and construction sectors.

Next steps

This qualification benefits existing heating and ventilating pipe fitters to achieve the BESCA 3 year Welding Certificate enabling you to weld low carbon steel pipe.

Once you have completed the 8 week course you will be eligible to sit the BESCA 3 year practical welding test BESA 2003 Code of Practice for Welding of Carbon Steel Pipework (TR5).

This code of practice relates to the welding of carbon steel pipework only. It deals with water, steam and gas pipework at pressures up to and including 17.0 bar and/or temperatures from -20°C up to and including 220°C.
