Leeds College of Building welcomed BBC Look North presenter Amy Garcia to the North Street Campus as the series of ‘WOW Barn’ bootcamps draw to a close.
Amy interviewed staff and women and non-binary barn-raiser volunteers during their training at the College in preparation for raising the WOW barn at the end of April.
The WOW Barn is one of 12 signature projects for LEEDS 2023. The new temporary event space on Cinder Moor in Woodhouse will be built from the ground up in a true city spectacle over 24 hours.
Over 300 women and non-binary volunteers and construction professionals will join together to build the temporary structure which will host the Women of the World Festival in May.
The WOW Barn is a partnership between LEEDS 2023 and WOW, Leeds City Council and West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA), and supported by Leeds College of Building, to break down the barriers that remain for women and girls when contemplating a career in construction at every level.
