College Student Plays Rugby League for Wales
A Leeds College of Building student is representing Wales this weekend in a match hosted at Stanningley.
Oscar Fisher, who is studying Civil Engineering at Leeds College of Building, joins the Wales Student squad as they face England Universities in the second leg of their two-match encounter. Oscar was picked for the team as a standout player and Captain from last year.
The match comes a week after their first clash held at Aberavon Harlequins RFC on Sunday 30th June, where England won 40:10. Wales Students are hoping to come away with victory in their follow-up game.
The fixtures replace the Four Nations that was cancelled this year after Scotland and Ireland were unable to compete. Both sides have prepared well. Wales secured a win over South Wales Jets in a friendly, whilst England recently won the annual “President’s Cup” against GB Police, GB Teachers and UK Armed Forces.
Head Coach Craig Fisher said: “The lads have trained well and eager to get stuck in. We have assembled a very capable squad that we think can carry the students programme forward in the future.”
The Wales Student side goes back to December 1984 after playing their first game against England in Wigan and entering the 1989 Student World Cup.
Many Wales Student internationals have since turned professional and have won full international honours.
