Our College is backing a national campaign which calls for fairer funding and recognition of the FE sector. The Love Our Colleges campaign is a partnership, calling on government to invest in FE people by investing in our colleges.
Statistics show that teachers in colleges are paid 20% less than in schools, and many support staff have seen little or no pay increase for several years; young people get an average of 10 hours less contact time than their counterparts around the world.
The Love Our Colleges campaign is an opportunity to highlight the brilliant work that goes on in colleges, and the amazing staff that make it all possible. It is also our opportunity to call on government for better investment in colleges, and fair pay for college staff.
In support, Leeds College of Building is hosting an Open Event at its North Street Campus on Thursday 17 October, 5pm - 7pm, during the campaign. The event is a celebration of the opportunities available through further education; students will be able to meet staff, tour facilities, and learn more about the courses on offer at the UK's only specialist construction college.
The ‘Love Our Colleges’ campaign is a partnership between Association of Colleges (AoC), National Union of Students (NUS), Association of College and School Leaders (ASCL), University and Colleges Union (UCU), GMB, TUC, National Education Union (NEU) and UNISON.
