18 students from Leeds College of Building are taking part in SkillBuild 2019. Delivered by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), SkillBuild is the largest multi-trade competition in the UK for construction trainees and apprentices.
Last year, 11 of our students won medals in the regional competitions of SkillBuild 2018. At the national WorldSkills UK competition, LCB apprentice Joseph Turner won gold in the ‘Roofing: Slating and Tiling’ final.
The 16 regional-qualifier SkillBuild competitions attract trainees and apprentices from across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, to compete in specialist construction-industry skills.
Students are competing in the following categories:
Students will receive an attendance certificate and in August will find out if they are successful in reaching the national finals held in Birmingham. Winners may then gain the opportunity to represent the UK in the international skills competitions - EuroSkills and WorldSkills.
Mark Sims, Leeds College of Building’s competition coordinator and lecturer said:
“We are extremely proud of our students for their hard work and dedication in this year’s SkillBuild competition, they have represented the college impeccably.
Thanks to their hard work and to the staff who trained them, they produce work of high standards and we are excited for the WorldSkills competition in Birmingham. The students should be proud of themselves!”
